Anthony Joshua to Dubois: ‘Your Words Will Fuel Me in Our Fight’
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is close to announcing who he will fight next. Many think it could be fellow British boxer Daniel Dubois, but this has not been officially confirmed yet.
According to Sky Sports, Joshua is set to fight at Wembley Stadium in September. Thanks to his huge popularity, he could fill all 90,000 seats at the stadium if his opponent is well-known.
The fight will be managed by Saudi boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh, marking his first big promotion in British boxing.
Alalshikh is also organizing a big fight in the American boxing scene between Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles on August 3, which has been criticized by some, like Oscar De La Hoya.
Anthony Joshua has had big wins at Wembley Stadium before, defeating Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin there.
Plans for a fight with Deontay Wilder have fallen through after Wilder’s recent losses. There were also talks of a fight with Zhilei Zhang, but Joshua’s team has not pursued it.
Another potential opponent is Joseph Parker, who previously lost to Anthony Joshua in 2018 and wants a rematch to try to win back his title.
Currently, Oleksandr Usyk holds the IBF heavyweight title. The IBF thought about taking the title from Usyk before a recent fight between Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois.
However, Dubois’ win has made the IBF careful about what to do next. It’s unclear if the IBF will let Anthony Joshua and Dubois fight for the title next, or if they will have to fight someone else first.
Speaking to Jonathon Ross in a clip captured by Now That’s Entertainment23, Joshua spoke about harnessing all the insults Fury has sent his way over the years.
“You meditate on what they say. This is one of my rivals, this is someone I want to compete with one day.
Everything he says I store it in my memory and when the fight happens I want to use it as fuel.”
