APC Campaigns for Tinubu’s “Settlement” of Ganduje’s Bribery Charges

Whatever scandal you see in it, the ruling APC has yet to grasp it.

Lukman Salihu just proposed President Bola Tinubu sweep his administration policy on corruption under the carpet. The party man wants the president to make their party’s national chairman kiss and make up with an opposition governor raking up muck on the ruling party.

For a while now, Kano’s Governor Yusuff has been giving his predecessor and APC national Chairman Abdulahi Ganduje hell. The latest comes as prosecution of bribery charges involving $413,000 and N1.38bn.

Kano has its own anti-corruption commission that investigates and prosecutes corruption cases in the state. The EFCC can also play an overall role in such a situation. So Ganduje has no hiding place.

But Salihu believes it’s all politics. Ganduje’s predecessor and NNPP former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankawso remains the hand in the glove. His godson Kabir Yusuff is only doing his godfather bidding, ruffling Ganduaje and the ruling APC.

“On no account should APC leaders limit the engagement of issues surrounding all the political challenges facing us as a party to only the issue of bribery allegation against Dr Ganduje,” Lukman warned in a statement in Abuja.

“If this means another round of negotiation for political alliance or a merger with Kwankwaso and NNPP, our leaders should proceed to act accordingly. President Tinubu and the APC must take full advantage of the current reality to renegotiate the support base of the APC.”

The last time he had the opportunity, Tinubu repeated his mantra about the anti-corruption fight.

“We will fight them to ruins. Corruption will go away. We will save the money for you to educate our children, to pay for the healthcare system of our people, to pay for the modern transportation system that works for highest number of people, not those few smugglers,” Tinubu said while commissioning a Lagos rail project in February.

With Salihu, a former national vice chairman, now pleading for political settlement of bribery allegations, Nigerians can make their guess.

After all, they have always suspected the anti-corruption fight is selective.
