Belgian University Offers Scholarships of Up to €12,000 for Master’s Students
International students who want to study for a Master’s degree in science at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium can now apply for the Science@Leuven Scholarship.
The Science@Leuven Scholarship is aimed at helping talented international students who have strong academic records and a clear motivation to study in science fields.

This scholarship provides financial support up to €12,000 for one year, covering tuition fees, health insurance, and some living expenses.
Eligible Master’s Programs
The scholarship is available only for certain Master’s programs at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Science:
- Astronomy and Astrophysics
- Biophysics, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Geography
- Interuniversity Master of Geology (specific specializations)
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Statistics and Data Science
- Sustainable Development (ICP)
Applicants for other programs outside this list are not eligible for the scholarship.
Who Can Apply
To apply for the Science@Leuven Scholarship, applicants must meet these requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree: Have a bachelor’s degree from a university outside Belgium that qualifies them for their chosen Master’s program.
Academic Performance: Show excellent results in their previous studies and have the potential to perform well at KU Leuven.
English Skills: Be fluent in English, with a TOEFL score of at least 94 (internet-based) or an IELTS score of at least 7.0, including specific scores for reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
References: Provide two recommendation letters from well-known professors.
Motivation: Have a strong reason for studying at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Science and a clear goal for their studies.
Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship provides:
- Tuition Fees: Covers the full cost of tuition for one academic year.
- Health Insurance: Basic health insurance for the program period.
- Living Expenses: Some money for living costs.
For two-year Master’s programs, the scholarship may be renewed for the second year if the student achieves excellent results in the first year.
Documents Needed for Application
Applicants must submit these documents through the KU Leuven application portal:
- Transcript of Records: Academic records showing courses taken, ECTS credits, grades, and descriptions of relevant courses.
- Motivation Letter: A brief letter explaining why the applicant wants to study the chosen program at KU Leuven.
- Reference Letters: Two recommendation letters from internationally recognized professors.
Applicants also need to upload proof of their completed Master’s program application, such as a screenshot, to finish the scholarship registration.
How to Apply
The application process has two main steps:
- Apply for the Master’s Program: First, apply for the chosen Master’s program through KU Leuven’s application portal, following instructions on the KU Leuven website.
- Register for the Scholarship: After applying for the program, applicants must also register for the Science@Leuven Scholarship. Confirmation will be sent by email.
The deadline for applications is February 15, 2025. Candidates must complete both the Master’s program application and the scholarship registration by this date.
