Billionaire Abdulsamad Rabiu Funds Major Project at Nigerian University

Billionaire Abdulsamad Rabiu’s charity, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), is funding a big project at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) in Effurun, Delta State. They’re building the Abdul Samad Rabiu Centre for Corrosion Research, which will focus on studying and preventing corrosion, especially in the oil and gas industry.

ASR Africa has given a N250 million grant from its Tertiary Education Grants Scheme (TEGS) to help build this centre. This is part of ASR Africa’s effort to improve higher education in Nigeria.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Dr Ubon Udoh, Managing Director and CEO of ASR Africa, spoke about how committed Abdul Samad Rabiu, the chairman of ASR Africa and BUA Group, is to make a lasting impact in education across Africa. Dr. Udoh mentioned that FUPRE was chosen for this project because of its excellent educational programs and its important research contributions to the oil and gas industry.

Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, the Vice Chancellor of FUPRE, thanked ASR Africa for the generous donation. He said that the new centre would greatly improve the university’s research capabilities and training.

He explained that the centre would not only improve practices in the industry but also provide students and researchers with the latest tools to study and solve problems related to corrosion in the energy sector.

This initiative is expected to make Nigeria a leader in corrosion research, offering solutions both locally and internationally. The investment by ASR Africa is seen as a significant step in supporting scientific research and technological innovation in Nigeria’s important oil and gas sector.

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative was founded in 2021 by the chairman of BUA Group. It focuses on creating local, impactful, and sustainable solutions to challenges in society, education, and health across Africa.
