Bobrisky, Beta Edu, and Shallipopi Are Nigeria’s Top Google Searches in 2024
On Tuesday, Google released its “2024 Year in Search” for Nigeria, showing what Nigerians were most curious about this year. Top searches included celebrities like Bobrisky, Beta Edu, Shallipopi, and the lyrics to the song “Ogechi.”
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, who works for Google in West Africa, explained that this yearly report highlights the most searched topics in Nigeria. It shows what movies, TV shows, and other interests drew the most attention.
Entertainment was a big hit, with movies like “A Tribe Called Judah,” “Treasure In The Sky,” and “Damsel” getting lots of searches. Popular TV shows included “Supacell,” “My Demon,” and “Queen of Tears.”
In food, the “Pornstar Martini recipe” was the top search, showing Nigerians exploring different recipes. Politically and economically, people were searching about the U.S. elections, Nigeria’s new national anthem, and the national power grid.
Bobrisky was the most searched person, and other celebrities like Shallipopi and Khaid were also highly searched. The most popular song was “I Don’t Care” by Boy Spyce, and many Nigerians looked up the lyrics to “Ozeba” and “Omemma” by Chandler Moore.
Searches also included personal finance questions like the exchange rate of the dollar to Naira and who won the U.S. presidential election. This report from Google shows a wide range of topics that interested Nigerians in 2024.
