Bobrisky now Inspiring Celebrities
Crossdresser Bobrisky has become an inspiration of sorts to Nigerian celebs following the six months’ jail time a Lagos court slammed him.
And the last of them you expect to turn penitent is street artiste Okikiola Habib aka Portable.
His problem is not gender-bending or anything. Portable, too, abused the naira in the past, and that
past is catching up to him.
Moreover, the ongoing trial of Lagos big shot Cubana Chief, Priest Pascal Okechukwu, has further put the fear of God into Portable.
“I didn’t deface the Naira, I help a lot of people, after God na government, please forgive me if you have videos of me spraying money, no more spraying of money”, he said in a recent live chat.
The Zazzau singer used to splash money around while riding on his car roof, and at parties he went to perform. But he believed he was being a good guy making naira rain.
Worried now, Portable promised to encourage his fan to open bank accounts for transfers.
The EFCC had trailed Bobrisky, gathering evidence of his serial abuse of the national currency until the agency arrested him, and eventually got him jailed.
The commission said many other celebrities have since come forward to make useful statements. Its investigators working on the matter have also invited many more.
“The EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime,” said Dele Oyewale, the commission’s spokesperson.
The commission had put Cubana Chief Priest in the cage following his arrest. A Lagos court granted him bail April 17.
The club owner sprayed the N500 notes for two hours at a party in Lagos in February, the commission claimed. He pleaded not guilty.
During his trial, Bobrisky pleaded ignorance of the CBN law.
For Portable and others, it might just be a matter of time before the commission drags them to court to make their own pleas.
