UPDATED: Son of Borno State Governor Allegedly Murders Someone in India

The son of Borno State Governor Professor Zulum has allegedly committed murder in India. There have been pressing questions about how far the Governor can go to influence the situation in his favour.

How it happened

The grim incident was said to have unfolded in a popular nightclub in India where, amidst a heated altercation, the governor’s son allegedly used a bottle as a lethal weapon to stab the other party.

According to reports by multiple media sources, the quarrel was over a woman, a scenario that tragically escalated into fatal violence. The aftermath has been chaotic, with the Governor’s son reportedly detained by Indian authorities, facing serious charges.

How Governor Zulum allegedly responded

In response, Governor Zulum allegedly traveled to India, attempting to use his diplomatic status and influence to resolve the matter. Despite his efforts, including an alleged substantial financial offer to the family of the deceased, the situation remains unresolved. 

The family of the deceased has refused all compensation, demanding justice through legal channels instead.

UPDATE

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has described the murder allegation against his son as mischievous and unfounded.

The governor also threatened to take legal action against the media outlets that published the story unless they retract within 24 hours.

Governor Zulum stated this in a press statement issued on Wednesday night in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on new media Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi.

The statement reads: 

“The Borno State Governor’s media unit‘s attention has been drawn to rumours circulating that the son of the Borno State Governor has been arrested for the alleged murder of some Indian citizen.

“This misinformation was published in an online blog, Nairaland, titled “Son of Borno State Governor Murders Someone In India—Politics.

“The blog claimed that the governor also travelled to India, attempting to use diplomatic status to resolve the matter.

“It is on record that Governor Babagana Zulum was on a month vacation in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj and later travelled to Egypt to attend the annual ASUWAN forum conference in Cairo.

“We hereby warn Nairaland and all those who have spread the false information to pull down this misinformation from its website and platforms within the next 24 hours and offer an unreserved apology to Governor Zulum, his son, and the entire family, or risk legal action.

“The Governor shall also not hesitate to take legal action against any media outlet that continues to publicise this defamatory information on its platform.”

The statement also emphasised that the Governor’s son was neither arrested nor involved in any incident in India, adding that the Governor did not also travel to India for any reason.

Although the statement was mute about the Governor son’s location on the day of the said the incident.
