Chiamaka Nnadozie Nominated for 2025 Ballon d’Or Yachine Trophy

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named one of the five finalists for the Women’s Yachine Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d’Or Awards.

At just 24 years old, Nnadozie’s nomination recognises her outstanding performances at both club and international levels this season.

Earlier this year, Nnadozie joined Brighton & Hove Albion Women on a four-year deal. Before that move, she starred for Paris FC, where she played a key role in securing the club’s first major trophy in over two decades.

In the Coupe de France final against Paris Saint-Germain, she made two crucial saves during the penalty shootout to clinch the title.

Heroics at WAFCON 2025

Nnadozie carried her excellent form into the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Between the posts, she kept four clean sheets, including in the semi-final and final, as Nigeria won a record-extending tenth WAFCON crown.

For her commanding presence and shot-stopping ability, she was named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper and earned a place in the Team of the Tournament.

Competing for the Yachine Trophy

The Women’s Yachine Trophy honours the world’s best goalkeeper, and Nnadozie faces stiff competition from four other elite keepers:

  • Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany)
  • Cata Coll (Spain)
  • Hannah Hampton (England)
  • Daphne van Domselaar (Netherlands)

Each finalist has enjoyed a stellar season, making this one of the most competitive races in recent memory.

What This Means for Nigerian Football

Nnadozie’s achievement highlights the rising standard of Nigerian women’s football on the global stage. Her nomination not only celebrates personal excellence but also shines a spotlight on the Super Falcons’ continued growth and success.

As she develops her career in England’s WSL and on the international scene, Nnadozie serves as an inspiration for young goalkeepers across Africa.

The winner of the Women’s Yachine Trophy will be announced at the Ballon d’Or ceremony later this year. Regardless of the final result, Nnadozie’s place among the five best goalkeepers in the world underscores her rapid rise and the bright future ahead for Nigerian football.
