Convicted Kidnapper Billionaire Evans Seeks Plea Bargain

Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans got a life sentence and a 21-year to boot after two Lagos courts convicted him of kidnapping and an attempt to murder in 2022.

After about two years, the convicted billionaire kidnapper faced another re-arraignment, and decided to ply the law for  a plea bargain.

The state prosecution counsel, Mr. Yusuf Sule, on Thursday, informed Ikeja High Court Justice Adenike Coker of the plea bargain option when Evan’s case came up.

Evans and his co-defendant face amended five counts bordering on murder, attempt to murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping and attempt to murder.

Sule told the justice that the suspects  were facing a re-arraignment but the defendant had applied for a plea bargain.

Attorney-General of Lagos State Lawal Pedro (SAN) is now looking into the plea-bargain option.

Police authorities arrested Evans and other suspects in 2017, years after his gang had kidnapped and tormented many.

His trial lasted for five years, and at some points his defence team could not continue the legal battle.

While running the kidnap ring, Evans targeted rich Nigerians who could afford dollars he demanded as ransome.

Sylvanus Hafia,  2014 victim of the group, paid $2 million as ransom.
