Court Sentences Nnamdi Kanu to Life Imprisonment
The Federal High Court in Abuja has delivered a major ruling in the long-running case involving Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Justice James Omotosho sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on multiple terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government.
The judgement was delivered without Kanu present in court. According to reports, Kanu had insisted earlier that the ruling would not be delivered on the terrorism charges brought against him, a stance that did not stop the court from proceeding.
Justice Omotosho convicted him on all seven counts. For Counts 4, 5 and 6, the court handed down a life sentence.
For Count 3, the court imposed an additional 20-year jail term. These charges centred on allegations of terrorism financing, incitement, and actions the government described as threats to national security.
