Cristiano Ronaldo Questions Credibility of FIFA Awards After Messi’s Win

Football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has cast a shadow of doubt over the credibility of individual awards, particularly in the aftermath of Lionel Messi’s controversial FIFA triumph.

Last week, Lionel Messi seized FIFA’s coveted “The Best” prize, astonishing many with his win over the remarkable Erling Haaland, who had secured the Treble.

It’s important to emphasize that Messi also secured the Ballon d’Or after his World Cup triumph. However, FIFA’s award didn’t consider this achievement.

Fresh from winning three accolades at the Globe Soccer Awards, Ronaldo subtly suggested that his long-time rival Messi might not have been the most deserving recipient of the FIFA award.

He expressed:

I think that, in a way, these awards are losing credibility. We have to analyze the entire season. It’s not to say that Messi didn’t deserve it, or Haaland or even Mbappe. I simply no longer believe in these awards.

Further, the football legend emphasized that his skepticism about these awards isn’t influenced by his recent success at the Globe Soccer Awards but rather rooted in objective facts and statistics.

He firmly stated;

And it’s not because I won at Globe Soccer. But there are facts, there are numbers. And the numbers don’t deceive. They can’t take this trophy away from me because it’s a reality. So it makes me even happier because the numbers are facts.

Looking ahead, Ronaldo acknowledged that he might not be in contention for major awards in the future, given his current role with a club in Saudi Arabia.

He explained;

We know how other organisms work. Obviously, I always think about my club and the national team first. The awards come after a good season for the club and the national team. I don’t think about it much, honestly.
