Daddy Freeze Joins The Honest Bunch – What Should We Expect?

When word got out that Daddy Freeze had joined The Honest Bunch podcast, many were curious and a few were even skeptical. This is because the outspoken broadcaster has always been known for his sharp tongue and no-filter takes. 

With the recent exit of Nedu Wazobia from the podcast, it seems Freeze is stepping into a familiar spotlight once again, but this time, on a whole new kind of stage.

From Romania to Radio Royalty

Daddy Freeze, whose real name is Ifedayo Olarinde, was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, to a Nigerian father and Romanian mother. 

Although he spent part of his early life in Eastern Europe, he was raised in Ibadan, where he later attended the International School Ibadan. He went on to study Sociology at the University of Ibadan, but his real passion always pointed towards media.

He started his radio journey in the 90s with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, before joining Cool FM in 2001. 

For over two decades, Freeze became a defining voice on Nigerian airwaves interviewing celebrities, stirring conversation, and building a reputation as one of the country’s most influential on-air personalities.

The #FreeTheSheeple Era

While many know him for his smooth radio voice, Freeze is equally famous or infamous for his controversial takes on religion. In 2017, he launched the “Free The Sheeple” movement under the banner of the Free Nation Online Church. 

His mission? To challenge the way churches in Nigeria preach tithing, wealth, and what he calls “pastor worship.”

This bold move earned him both loyal followers and fierce enemies. Several pastors publicly called him out, and he admitted to losing over ₦100 million in event hosting gigs due to his criticism of the church. Yet, Freeze never backed down. If anything, he leaned in harder.

Man of many controversies

Beyond the pulpit wars, Freeze has also had a rollercoaster personal life. His former marriage to Opeyemi Olarinde ended on a sour note, marked by allegations of emotional and physical abuse. 

He has children from that marriage and has often addressed the issue in interviews and live videos.

He later got involved with Benedicta Elechi, a food and wellness entrepreneur who was previously married to Paul Odekina. Their relationship brought fresh headlines when a court fined Freeze ₦5 million over an adultery lawsuit filed by Benedicta’s ex-husband. 

Despite the drama, the couple has remained together and even have a son. Benedicta, in fact, described Freeze as her “soulmate” in a birthday post to him, showing the bond between them has endured more than a few storms.

Now on The Honest Bunch

With Nedu stepping away from The Honest Bunch, the producers needed someone just as bold someone unafraid to ruffle feathers. 

Daddy Freeze could be a perfect fit or not. Known for his unfiltered opinions and deep takes on culture, relationships, and religion, Freeze might be the next loud voice the podcast needs. Coupled with the fact that he’s a whole movement.
