Dangote Refinery Among the Top 10 Largest Refineries Worldwide

The global landscape of oil refining is dominated by giants, with facilities spread across continents, processing vast quantities of crude oil daily. These refineries are pivotal in transforming crude oil into essential products like gasoline, diesel, and petrochemicals. Among these titans, a new entrant from Africa has made its mark. 

The Dangote Refinery, situated in Lekki, Nigeria, has not only become the largest refinery in Africa but has also earned its place among the top largest refineries worldwide. 

Jamnagar Refinery

Owned by Reliance Industries in India, the Jamnagar Refinery holds the title of the world’s largest refinery. With a capacity of 1,240,000 barrels per day, it processes a diverse range of over 216 crude oil grades.

Paraguana Refinery Complex

In Venezuela, the Paraguana Refinery Complex stands as the second largest, producing 940,000 barrels per day. This refinery is crucial to Venezuela’s oil production, accounting for 71% of the country’s output.

Ulsan Refinery

South Korea’s Ulsan Refinery, operated by SK Energy, ranks third globally. It produces a variety of products including diesel and jet fuel, with a capacity of 850,000 barrels per day.

Ruwais Refinery

Located in the UAE, the Ruwais Refinery is the fourth largest and the biggest in the Middle East. It processes 837,000 barrels of oil per day.

Yeosu Refinery

Operated by GS Caltex Corporation, South Korea’s Yeosu Refinery is the fifth largest, producing 800,000 barrels of crude per day.

Onsan Refinery

Another South Korean refinery, the Onsan Refinery, operated by S-Oil Corporation Inc., processes 669,000 barrels of crude per day.

Dangote Refinery

Nigeria’s pride, the Dangote Refinery, has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. It is not only the largest in Africa but also the seventh largest in the world.

Port Arthur Refinery

Located in Texas, USA, the Port Arthur Refinery has a capacity of 640,000 barrels per day, making it the eighth largest.

Galveston Bay Refinery

Also in Texas, the Galveston Bay Refinery, operated by Marathon Petroleum, is the ninth largest with a capacity of 631,000 barrels per day.

Beaumont Refinery

Rounding out the top 10, the Beaumont Refinery in Texas, operated by Exxon Mobil, has a capacity of 630,000 barrels per day.
