According to Bloomberg analysis, Dangote Refinery can refine 246000 bpd more than the leading European counterpart’s 404-bpd capacity, which ranks the highest in Europe.

The Nigerian refinery currently runs at about half of its installed capacity, as analysts at WoodMac, FGE, and Citac estimated.

BP Rotterdam Refinery in the Netherlands has a capacity of 380,000; GOI Energy ISAB Refinery in Italy, 360,000bpd; and TotalEnergies, 338,000 bpd.

The $20-billion complex is currently stocking and refining cheaper crude from the US which is about one-third of its input. The refinery has been shipping diesel and aviation fuels in recent times. Two more units will soon start producing petrol.

“Dangote is going to influence Atlantic Basin gasoline markets this summer and for the rest of the year,” Alan Gelder, an energy analyst, told Bloomberg.
