Dangote to Leave 25% of His Wealth to His Foundation After Death

Africa’s richest man said he has already made arrangements for 25% of his wealth to go to the Aliko Dangote Foundation in the event of his death, and he didn’t stop there.

Reports also say his mother and his three children have signed the arrangement, a detail that makes this less like a public promise and more like a decision that’s been formally agreed upon at home.

For a business audience, that’s the real headline: not just the generosity, but the structure.

Why this stands out

A lot of wealthy people donate while they’re alive. Far fewer take the extra step of locking in a fixed share of wealth for a foundation and getting family buy-in early. That matters because legacy giving often becomes messy after the founder is gone, delayed, disputed, or quietly reduced.

If a quarter of Dangote’s wealth is earmarked and acknowledged by the immediate family, the foundation’s work is less likely to depend on changing moods, boardroom politics, or inheritance debates later.

The foundation is widely known for interventions around health, education and poverty reduction, and the idea behind this kind of arrangement is straightforward, ensure those projects don’t slow down because the founder is no longer there to personally approve funding.
