Deadly Raid: Terrorists Kill 11, Abduct Dozens in Zamfara Village

According to reports, approximately 250 terrorists launched an assault on Gidan Zuma village situated in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.

Tragically, they claimed the lives of 11 individuals and seized 20 women along with an unspecified number of children.

The attack unfolded during the late hours of Sunday, as disclosed by residents of the area.

These communities now find themselves gripped by fear, anticipating further strikes from the bandits.

An anonymous resident voiced concerns, expressing the vulnerability of Zamfara to such assaults, and lamenting the delayed response of security forces, who often arrive only after the perpetrators have departed.

Communities around Gidan Zuma are in a state of panic, as according to a resident, “they (bandits) can strike any time and security forces would arrive only after they’ve left.”

In a heart-wrenching account, the same resident revealed the personal toll of the raid, disclosing the abduction of his wife and child.

He mourned the loss of his brother, who fell victim to the attackers while serving as a volunteer vigilante on patrol duty. The bandits callously forced numerous women and children into the wilderness.

“They kidnapped my wife with our little kid. Only God knows how they’re faring, considering the hot weather and the Ramadan fast.”

“They shot and killed 11 persons, among them my only brother while on neighbourhood patrol as a volunteer vigilante. They forced 20 women and a lot of children into the bush,” he added.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation of the incident. Efforts to obtain information from the Zamfara State Police Command, through their spokesperson ASP Yazid Abubakar, yielded no response.

The harrowing events in Gidan Zuma in Zamfara as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region, underscoring the urgent need for effective measures to ensure the safety and protection of innocent lives.
