El-Rufai: Why I Dumped APC for SDP
Former Governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He announced this change on his verified Facebook page with a post titled “NIGERIA UPDATE: Onwards to the Future.”
El-Rufai explained that his personal beliefs no longer match the direction the APC is heading. He is disappointed with the party’s leaders and accuses them of moving away from the party’s original progressive values.
He shared that he has been voicing his concerns about the party’s path both privately and publicly for the last two years but found that the current leaders are not willing to make changes. He has officially submitted his resignation to his local party ward in Kaduna State, effective immediately.
In his announcement, El-Rufai looked back at his involvement with the APC since its start in 2013. He hoped the party would continue to share his values, but recent actions have shown him otherwise.
He talked about his efforts to help the APC win elections in 2015, 2019, and 2023 and his work as governor, where he focused on improving schools, healthcare, and infrastructure, and promoting jobs and investment. Despite his work, he feels that the party no longer appreciates these efforts and has ignored its members.
El-Rufai has decided to join the SDP and calls on his supporters and anyone else who cares about Nigeria’s future to join him. He plans to work with other leaders and parties to form a strong group that can challenge the APC in future elections, hoping to make Nigeria a proud nation for Africans and the global Black community.
