Elon Musk’s X Platform Hikes Premium+ Subscription Price by 51% in Nigeria
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has increased the price of its highest subscription plan, Premium+, around the world.
In Nigeria, this price has gone up by 51%, which means Nigerian users will now pay N34,000 per month instead of N22,550.
Different countries will see different price increases. For example, in the United States, the price has gone up by 37.5%, from $16 to $22.
In the European Union, it has risen from €16 to €21, and in Canada, the cost is now $29, up from $20.
X explained that the new prices, starting from December 21, 2024, for new users, reflect improvements to the platform. Existing subscribers will keep paying the old price until January 20, 2025.
After this date, the new price will apply. The company noted that the final price could change based on where you are, taxes, and payment fees.
Here’s why X says it raised the prices:
- No Ads: Premium+ now offers a completely ad-free experience, which is a big improvement and part of the reason for the higher price.
- Better Features: Subscribers now get faster support, access to new tools like Radar, and can use more advanced features of the Grok AI models.
- Helping Creators: The money from subscriptions helps support creators on X more directly. The platform has changed how it shares revenue to focus on rewarding creators based on the quality of their content and how much people interact with it, not just on how many ads are viewed.
The price increase does not affect X’s cheaper Premium plan, which is still N3,650 per month or N38,500 a year in Nigeria.
X has also shared that its program for creators has given out over $45 million to 150,000 creators in seven months.
Some creators have said that these payments are too small compared to other platforms, but X claims it has clear payment rules and offers one of the fastest payment schedules in the industry, paying creators every two weeks.
