“Everywhere Is Dangerous”: Davido Defends Nigeria in Viral Interview

Afrobeats star Davido is speaking up for Nigeria, and he’s not sugarcoating anything.

In a recent interview with French-language media outlet CKO, the singer took a moment to challenge the idea that Nigeria is this dangerous, chaotic place the world should fear.

When the interviewer brought up how some foreigners view the country as unsafe, Davido didn’t hesitate to call out the double standard.

“Everywhere is dangerous!” he said firmly. “Congo is dangerous, Benin is dangerous, Paris is dangerous.

Even in Atlanta, you could get shot just walking down the street. The world is dangerous—it’s God that protects us.”

It wasn’t just a passionate clapback—it was personal.

Davido, who grew up between Atlanta and Lagos, knows both sides of the story. And while he doesn’t deny Nigeria has its issues, he made it clear that danger is not exclusive to one country or continent.

What bothers him most is how the media and outsiders often only show one side of Nigeria—the problems—while ignoring its beauty, wealth, and culture.

“They don’t show the Bugattis. They don’t show the Ferraris, the Rolls-Royces, the private jets,” he said. “You’ve only heard it’s dangerous—that’s why you need to visit and see for yourself.”

And that’s exactly what Davido encouraged the host to do—come to Lagos. Experience the country beyond the headlines. Don’t just consume fear-fed stories.

He pointed out that many other countries also have gangs, crime, and danger, but they aren’t reduced to that one narrative.

“Where did you even hear that from?” he asked the host, half amused, half annoyed. “There are gangs everywhere—even in Congo and Senegal.”

The clip quickly made waves on social media, with fans praising Davido for how calmly and confidently he defended Nigeria without getting defensive.

Comments poured in, applauding his honesty and his refusal to let his country be boxed in by stereotypes.

“He’s spitting facts. Danger is everywhere—you just have to be careful and pray,” one user wrote.
“The girl tried every possible way to paint Nigeria badly,” another said. “But Davido didn’t let her.”

In a world where countries like Nigeria are too often seen through a narrow lens of crime and corruption, Davido’s message was simple but powerful:
Don’t believe everything you hear. Come and see the full picture.

After all, as he reminded us, even the most glamorous cities have their shadows. So maybe the question isn’t “Is Nigeria dangerous?”—maybe it’s “Isn’t everywhere?”
