Ex-Arsenal Midfielder Thomas Partey Denies Rape and Assault Charges
Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he raped two women and sexually assaulted a third.
Appearing at Southwark Crown Court, the Ghanaian midfielder entered not guilty pleas to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during his time in the Premier League. He was charged four days after leaving the north London club when his contract expired at the end of June.
Partey was granted bail and is due to stand trial at the same court on 2 November next year. In court he confirmed his name before responding not guilty to each charge.
Now with Spanish side Villarreal, Partey was already in England this week as his new team faced Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Tuesday. He came on as a substitute in a match that ended in a 1–0 defeat.
Under his bail conditions, Partey is permitted to continue playing football. He must, however, notify police at least 24 hours before any international travel and must not contact the complainants.
