Facebook Sets 30-Day Limit for Live Video Storage—What It Means for You

Facebook is making a big change to how it stores live videos. Starting February 19, 2025, all new live videos on Facebook will only be available for 30 days before they are automatically deleted.

This means that if you go live on Facebook, you’ll need to save or share your video within a month before it disappears.

Why is Facebook doing this?

According to Facebook, most people watch live videos within the first few weeks after they’re posted. So, the company is updating its storage rules to match industry standards and keep the platform running smoothly.

If you have older live videos on Facebook, they won’t stay forever. Facebook will start deleting all past live videos that are more than 30 days old. But don’t worry—you’ll get a notification before they’re removed.

How Will Facebook Notify You?

Facebook will send alerts through:

  • Email
  • In-app notifications

Once you receive a notification, you will have 90 days to download, transfer, or convert your live videos before they are gone forever.

How to save your live videos

Facebook is giving users different ways to keep their live videos:

  1. Download to Your Device
    • Open your live video.
    • Click the menu (three dots […]).
    • Select “Download Video.”
  2. Download Multiple Videos at Once
    • Go to Activity Log on Facebook.
    • Select “Your Live Videos.”
    • Pick a date range and click “Create File.”
  3. Transfer to Cloud Storage
    • Choose “Transfer Live Videos” in your settings.
    • Select Dropbox, Google Drive, or another service.
    • Tap “Save” to store your videos online.

Can You Keep Live Videos on Facebook?

Yes! If you don’t want your videos to disappear, you can turn them into reels. Reels are short clips that stay on your page even after the 30-day limit.

Facebook is also letting users extend their live video storage for up to six more months before they get deleted. To do this:

  1. Open the notification about video deletion.
  2. Click “Learn More.”
  3. Tap “Postpone the Deletion.”

If you don’t act within six months, your videos will be permanently deleted. If you regularly use Facebook Live, this change means you’ll need to save your videos quickly before they’re gone. Make sure to download, transfer, or convert them into reels before the 30-day window closes!
