Falz Reveals: “I’ve Never Been in a Relationship or Experienced Heartbreak”

Popular Nigerian rapper and actor Falz is known for his bold lyrics and sharp social commentary, but when it comes to matters of the heart, he’s surprisingly reserved.

During a candid conversation at the WithChude Live event with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the 34-year-old artist shared a deeply personal side of himself, revealing that he has never fallen in love or experienced heartbreak — despite spending years in the public eye.

“I’ve not found anybody that genuinely likes me,” Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, admitted. “In all sincerity, it’s incredibly tough to have a healthy, loving family life and be in entertainment.”

Falz explained that balancing fame and relationships has always felt complicated.

Rather than risk hurting himself or someone else, he said he’s chosen to stay cautious and stay away from relationships he’s not fully ready for.

“Some people would say I’m running away from commitment,” he said. “But it’s one thing to know you’re not prepared, and it’s another thing to deceive yourself and mess things up for yourself and the other person. It’s me just being conscious.”

No “I Love You” Yet — And No Heartbreak

In an even more surprising revelation, Falz confessed that he has never said “I love you” to anyone in a romantic context.

“I’ve never been heartbroken. If you don’t put your leg inside water, can you drown?” he joked. “I’ve been giving small heartbreak though.”

While he’s experienced and expressed affection, Falz clarified that he’s never fully crossed into what he considers real romantic love.

“Maybe it borders on being conscious and not wanting to go all in,” he added thoughtfully.

Falz, who launched his music career in 2009, has carved out a distinct identity both as a musician and an actor.

His socially conscious songs like Child of the World and Talk have tackled societal ills and earned him a reputation for fearless storytelling.

Beyond the mic, Falz has also made impressive strides in Nollywood, making his acting debut in the 2016 film Couple of Days.

His artistic range has earned him multiple accolades, including the City People Entertainment Award for ‘Album of the Year’ in 2016.
