Farmer’s Bride Earns N154 Million at Nigerian Box Office

“Farmer’s Bride” has quickly become a major hit in Nigerian cinemas, earning N154 million in just over a month. This strong performance has helped push Nigeria’s total box office earnings close to N8 billion for the year.

The film premiered on September 27 and earned N37.1 million in its first weekend, setting a record for the highest opening weekend for an 18-rated Nollywood film in 2024. It was also the fourth biggest opening of the year for any Nigerian movie. The film continued to attract viewers with its engaging story and well-crafted production.

Just 12 days after its release, “Farmer’s Bride” had already made N89 million. By October 20, it crossed the N100 million mark, establishing itself as one of the top-grossing Nollywood films of the year. By the end of October, it had made over N130 million; by early November, it had reached N154 million in total earnings.

Set in the 1980s in Ibadan, “Farmer’s Bride” tells the story of Odun, a rich farmer who marries a young woman named Funmi hoping for companionship. However, their marriage runs into problems when Funmi starts an affair with Odun’s nephew, leading to a complex story filled with love, betrayal, and mystical elements.

The film features well-known actors like Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola. Their outstanding performances have helped make the film a success, resonating with audiences and drawing them into the story.
