How FCCPC New TV Series Could Stop Underage Tobacco Use
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken a big step in its commitment to combat underage tobacco use by launching a new TV series “Faith & Fortune.”
As part of their “Don’t Burn Their Future” campaign, the commission introduced “Faith & Fortune,” an innovative drama to educate young people about tobacco-related risks.
Why it matters – A call to action
As a result of the undeniable influence of the media, FCCPC is harnessing this power to spread a vital message. The agency understands that preventing tobacco use among minors isn’t just about laws and regulations, it’s about changing perceptions and informing choices from a young age.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to fulfilling the National Tobacco Control Act (NTCA), which aims to shield young Nigerians from the allure and dangers of tobacco.
What the series is all about
Set to premiere on June 1, 2024, on DSTV Showcase Channel 151, “Faith & Fortune” features a series of 13 episodes airing every Saturday at 6:00 PM, with repeats every Tuesday.
Each episode delves into the lives of young individuals navigating through challenges, including peer pressure and the temptation of tobacco use. Through its compelling narrative and engaging characters, the series aims to entertain and educate.
Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, the Acting Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, emphasized the series’ educational goal. “We are not just creating a TV show; we are crafting a tool for empowerment and prevention.
This series will offer young viewers and their families the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about tobacco use,” he stated during the recent private screening of the series.
What to expect
The commission is not stopping with TV. It continues to engage the public through radio, TV, and out-of-home advertisements, all echoing the message against underage tobacco use.
Moreover, the FCCPC has launched a toll-free line to offer support and counseling for those in need.
