FG Launches Portal for Reporting Housing Fraud in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has launched a simple web portal where Nigerians can report suspected fraud in the real estate sector.

The site, reports.fmhud.gov.ng, allows people to submit complaints, upload evidence (such as documents or photos), and share details about dishonest practices in housing estates across the country. You can also track the status of your report.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the move follows the 2012 National Housing Policy, which calls for stronger rules to guide housing delivery.

According to him, the ministry will tighten oversight of estate developers through certification and regulation, and is working toward creating a National Housing and Urban Development Regulatory Commission to coordinate the sector. This means closer checks on developers, better monitoring of real estate activities, and tougher action against fraud.

Dangiwa explained that many Nigerians have lost money to fake developers and “sharp practices.” He said the new portal will help citizens report cases safely and transparently, while the ministry works with professional bodies, law enforcement, and the courts to punish offenders.

“Our goal is a housing market where Nigerians can invest and own homes with confidence, free from fear of fraud,” he said. He also praised Shuaib Belgore, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, and the team that built the platform.

The ministry’s Deputy Director and Head of ICT, Marcus Amiolemen, said the portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He described it as user-friendly and promised that all reports will be carefully reviewed and investigated with relevant stakeholders.

Amiolemen also announced a second digital tool, the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS). It helps the ministry oversee housing projects with a real-time dashboard, analytics, and clear performance indicators.

Staff can upload photos and progress updates from project sites using their phones. There is also a secure document centre for contracts, payment certificates, and bills of quantities.
