Four Dead, Five Injured in Ondo Cult Clash
A violent clash between rival cult groups in Ondo town, Ondo State, has left four people dead and at least five others injured.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, has sparked fresh concerns over the growing wave of cult-related violence sweeping through the state.
The attack took place in multiple locations, including Ife Garage, Sabo, and Christ Land in the Oka area of the town, where gunmen believed to be members of a rival cult group opened fire on their targets.
Witnesses say the attackers, masked and heavily armed, targeted known members of the Ẹiyẹ confraternity.
Three victims were reportedly gunned down near Ife Garage, while a fourth was shot in front of a popular kiosk known as “Mama Shop” in Sabo.
Police Confirm Killings and Arrests
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and stated that the victims were suspected cultists who had long been on the command’s wanted list.
“We can confirm that four people were killed and five others injured. All of them are linked to rival cult groups,” he said.
“Security agencies are fully on ground to prevent further escalation. Residents should go about their lawful activities without fear.”
In response to the killings, the police launched a raid on Wednesday morning in the New Garage area of Ayeyemi, believed to be a base for one of the cult groups.
Officers reportedly forced their way into suspected hideouts and arrested several individuals connected to the violence. The exact number of those arrested was not disclosed.
“Desperate times require decisive action,” Ayanlade said. “Anyone picked up during the raid has a case to answer. However, any officer found to have acted unprofessionally will face disciplinary measures.”
Ongoing Investigation
Security patrols have since intensified in flashpoints like New Garage and other parts of the town, with police vowing to apprehend all individuals involved in the killings.
“We are actively tracking those behind the attacks,” Ayanlade added. “Justice will be served for the victims and their families.”
This latest outbreak adds to the growing concern over cultism in the state, where turf wars among rival groups continue to claim lives and destabilize communities.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
