Guidelines to Apply for New Contactless Passport Application System
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is introducing a new way for Nigerians to renew their passports without having to visit an immigration office.
This new system, starting in Canada on November 1, 2024, and expanding to other countries including the UK, USA, and Italy by November 15, and globally by December 1, simplifies the passport renewal process through a contactless, online application.
Step-by-Step Guide to Renewing Your Passport Online
Access the System: From November 1, you can download the NIS mobile app from Google Play, the App Store, or Windows Store, or visit the official website at www.passport.immigration.gov.ng. This makes it possible to handle your application from your home.
Register Your Profile: Start your renewal process by registering on the app or website with a valid email address.
Check Eligibility: Quickly check if your passport is eligible for renewal through the app or website.
Enter Your Details: Provide your National Identification Number (NIN) and current passport number for verification.
Upload Required Documents: Submit necessary personal information and documents like your NIN slip, birth certificate, and proof of local government area.
Capture Biometrics: Use your device to capture biometric details such as fingerprints, which is necessary for identity verification.
Review and Confirm: Before submitting, make sure all your entered information is correct.
Payment: Pay the required fee online as part of the application process.
Submit and Wait: After submitting, the processing of your application will start. Once approved, your renewed passport will be mailed directly to the address you provided.
