Hackers Hijack GTBank Website, May Have Access to Customers’ Data

GTBank, one of Nigeria’s largest banks reportedly faced a cybersecurity breach that disrupted its website shortly after the domain was renewed from August 13, 2024, to March 21, 2029. The breach, detected on the evening of August 14, led to the website gtbank.com becoming inaccessible.

A group of hackers has claimed responsibility for the attack. Our reporter’s checks on the website revealed that the cyber criminals created a fake version of the website to potentially steal customers’ data.

According to a cybersecurity expert, the attackers might have accessed the bank’s login credentials rather than aiming to sell the domain.
