How Many Wars Has President Trump Really Ended?

US President Donald Trump recently claimed that he had ended six wars during his second term in office, without even using the word “ceasefire.”

The following day, he increased the number to “seven wars.” As he tries to broker peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, many have questioned how much credit Trump deserves for ending these conflicts.

Here’s a breakdown of the conflicts Trump claims to have resolved and the reality behind them.

Israel and Iran

In June 2025, a 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran escalated after Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Trump was briefed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the strikes.

A de facto ceasefire was reached, with Trump announcing its end on social media. However, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the situation a “decisive victory,” and the issue of Iran’s nuclear program remained unresolved, leaving doubts about the lasting impact of the peace.

Pakistan and India

In May 2025, tensions between India and Pakistan flared over Kashmir. After four days of strikes, Trump helped facilitate a full ceasefire, calling it a result of “long nights of talks.” While Pakistan praised his intervention, India played down his involvement, stating the military dialogue was independent.

Though a ceasefire was reached, it is unclear whether this will lead to lasting peace between the two nuclear-armed nations.

Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo

After years of conflict, Rwanda and the DRC signed a peace deal in June 2025, with Trump’s help in Washington.

However, since the agreement, both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, and M23 rebels, believed to have links to Rwanda, have threatened to derail the peace talks. This suggests the ceasefire has not been entirely effective.

Thailand and Cambodia

In July 2025, a border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia resulted in fighting. Within days, Trump facilitated a ceasefire, warning Thailand and Cambodia that failing to end the conflict would affect trade with the US.

Although a ceasefire was agreed upon, Trump’s involvement is seen more as a diplomatic move rather than a definitive end to the conflict.

Armenia and Azerbaijan

Trump helped broker a peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan in August 2025 after decades of conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The agreement, celebrated as a diplomatic win, was lauded by both parties. Although Trump played a role in bringing the leaders together, the true impact of the peace deal remains to be seen.

Other Conflicts

Trump also claims to have helped prevent potential wars between Serbia and Kosovo, Egypt and Ethiopia over the Nile River dispute, and Russia and Ukraine. However, in many of these cases, Trump’s claims are disputed or involve ongoing tensions with no official resolution.

For example, while Trump threatened economic sanctions on Serbia and Kosovo, there was no full-scale war between them at the time. Similarly, the Nile dispute remains unresolved.
