How Much Will Clubs Earn Under the New Champions League Format?

The Champions League is changing this season, with more teams and more prize money. This means the competition will be even more exciting and give clubs across Europe better chances to compete and earn.

Big Financial Boost for Clubs

Reports from The Times suggest that clubs could earn an extra £23 million ($30.3 million/€27.3 million) because of these changes. This extra money could help clubs improve by buying better players, upgrading their facilities, and growing their operations.

More Teams, More Matches

Instead of the usual group stages, there will now be a league phase with 36 teams, up from 32. This change means fans will get to watch more games and see more action.

Guaranteed Money for Qualifying

Every one of the 36 teams that makes it to the tournament will get at least £15.7 million ($20.6 million/€18.6 million), which is more than before. Top clubs can expect to make around £92.8 million ($121.4 million/€110 million) on average, which is a big increase from the past.

Earning More by Performing Well

The new setup also rewards teams more for how well they do in the league phase. The best-performing clubs can earn up to £8.5 million ($11.1 million/€10 million), and even the lower-ranked teams will get something.

Top Eight Teams Get Extra

The clubs that finish in the top eight of the league phase will get an extra £1.69 million ($2.2 million/€1.90 million) added to their earnings.

Rewards for Winning Games

Teams will also get money for winning or drawing matches. Each win brings £1.77 million ($2.33 million/€2.1 million), and each draw earns £590,000 ($777,000/€699,000). With more games to play, there are more chances to earn.

Knockout Stages Mean Bigger Prizes

As teams move further in the tournament, the prizes get bigger:

 Last 16: £9.28 million ($12.2 million/€11 million)

 Quarter-finals: £10.5 million ($13.8 million/€12.4 million)

 Semi-finals: £12.6 million ($16.6 million/€14.9 million)

 Final: £15.6 million ($20 million/€18 million)
