How Nigerians Can Adjust to the New Strict UAE Entry Requirements

The UAE Entry Requirements for Nigerian travellers have become stricter as of mid-2025. Now, you cannot get a quick transit visa on arrival and must apply in advance for a full entry permit.

To make it easy, we have broken down the new rules into simple questions and clear answers. Each section includes real-world examples so you can see exactly what documents to prepare, when to apply, and how to plan your trip.

By following these steps, you will meet the UAE Entry Requirements without stress and enjoy your visit knowing all the rules are covered.

1. Can I still get a transit visa on arrival?

Answer: No. As of July 2025, the UAE no longer issues free 48- or 96-hour transit visas on arrival to Nigerian passport holders.

  • Example: If you flew from Dubai to Abu Dhabi to London, hoping to step out in Abu Dhabi for a few hours, you must now secure your UAE entry visa before departure. You cannot rely on an on-arrival transit permit.

2. What exactly is a DVN?

Answer: DVN stands for Document Verification Number. It is a unique code you get by registering on the UAE’s official Document Verification Hub. The DVN authenticates your identity and supporting documents before you apply for the actual visa.

  • Example: After uploading your passport scan and paying the DVN fee (usually around $25), you receive a six-digit DVN by email. You then include this DVN in your visa application form.

3. How do I apply for a DVN?

Answer:

  1. Visit the UAE Document Verification Hub website.
  2. Create an account using your email and phone number.
  3. Upload a scanned copy of your Nigerian passport biodata page.
  4. Pay the non-refundable DVN processing fee.
  5. Receive your DVN by email (within 24–48 hours).
  • Tip: Use a clear, high-resolution scan of your passport to avoid delays.

4. What financial proof do I need?

Answer: You must show you can support yourself during your stay. The UAE embassy will ask for:

  • Recent bank statements (minimum balance specified by the embassy, often around ₦500,000).
  • A letter from your bank confirming your account status.
  • Example: If you plan a two-week trip, submit bank statements covering the last three months showing regular deposits and at least ₦500,000 in your account.

5. Do I need biometric data or extra security checks?

Answer: Yes. Many applicants must book and attend a biometric appointment at the UAE Visa Application Centre in Lagos or Abuja. You will provide fingerprints and a photo.

  • Example: After submitting your visa application online, you’ll receive an email with a link to book your fingerprint session. Attend on the scheduled date or your application will be put on hold.

6. How far in advance should I apply?

Answer: At least 6–8 weeks before your travel date. This timeline covers:

  1. DVN registration (2 days)
  2. Visa application processing (7–14 days)
  3. Biometric appointment availability (1–2 weeks)
  4. Any additional security checks (up to 2 weeks)
  • Example: For a trip on December 1, start DVN registration by mid-September and book your biometric slot by early October.

7. What if my trip changes and I need a new visa?

Answer: Because the UAE grants only single-entry visas, exiting the country ends your visa. If you need to return, you must repeat the entire process (new DVN, application, biometric).

  • Example: If you visit Dubai for business, fly to Oman for a day, and then plan to return to Dubai, you must secure a fresh visa before re-entering.
