How to Qualify for the UK Charity Worker Visa
The UK Charity Worker Visa allows individuals to come to the UK for up to 12 months to do voluntary work.
This visa does not lead to permanent residency, but it allows family members like partners and children under 18 to join as dependents.
According to Last Stop Booking, once someone gets this visa, they can stay in the UK for up to 12 months, plus an extra 14 days if needed, based on their Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
Visa holders can also come to the UK 14 days before their job starts.
Rights and Limits for Visa Holders
People with a Charity Worker Visa can do the charity work listed in their CoS and can even work a second job in the same area.
However, they can’t get paid for their charity work except for basic expenses. They also can’t use public funds or take permanent jobs.
How to Qualify
To get this visa, applicants must:
- Do voluntary work that helps their sponsor’s charity goals.
- Only get money to cover reasonable costs from their work.
- Not take a job meant to be permanent.
Applicants need to be 18 or older, have a job that meets certain criteria, hold a valid CoS, plan to do the sponsored job, meet financial rules, and not have had a similar visa in the last 12 months unless they were outside the UK.
They also might need to show they are free of tuberculosis.
What You Need for the Application
A valid CoS from a top-rated UK sponsor is essential. It should confirm the job is appropriate for voluntary work and be issued within three months before applying.
Applicants must also show they have enough money unless they have been in the UK for over a year.
This means showing savings of at least £1,270 for 28 days before applying, or their sponsor must confirm they will support them financially.
Benefits of the Visa
The Charity Worker Visa lets people:
- Work with a UK charity and make a positive difference.
- Gain valuable skills and international experience.
- Network with charity professionals in the UK.
- Attract skilled volunteers from around the world.
- Enjoy free time to explore the UK and other parts of Europe.
How to Apply
You must apply online from outside the UK and not have had this type of visa or a Religious Worker visa in the last 12 months unless you were abroad.
A tuberculosis certificate may be needed. The visa costs £244, and there’s an extra charge for healthcare. Some countries get a discount on the fee.
This visa offers a way for people to help important causes and gain experience in the UK.
