I’m Supposed to be Dead, I’m not Supposed to be Here,’ Trump says

Former US President Donald Trump barely escaped death during an attack at a rally in Pennsylvania last Saturday. In one of his first talks after the event, Trump said he believes he was saved “by luck or by God.”

Talking to the conservative media, the Washington Examiner, Trump explained the moment the attack happened: “The most incredible thing was that I happened to turn my head at the exact right time and just enough.”

He mentioned that a bullet just missed killing him by grazing his ear, saying, “I’m supposed to be dead, I’m not supposed to be here.”

The attack resulted in the death of one person watching the rally, while two others were badly hurt. The attacker, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, also died at the scene.

Trump described his feelings after realizing he had been shot. He said the crowd’s reaction was powerful and hard to describe. “I knew that history would judge this, and I knew I had to let them know we are OK,” he stated.

As Trump gets ready for the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he’s expected to be confirmed as the party’s candidate for president, he shared that the attack has changed his views.

He planned to criticize President Joe Biden’s policies, but now he wants to use his speech to unite the country. “Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now. It is a chance to bring the country together,” he said.

Despite the attack, Trump decided to stick to his original plan and not delay his trip to Wisconsin. He expressed on his social media, Truth Social, that he couldn’t let an attacker force him to change his plans.

The reason behind the attacker’s actions is still unknown. The FBI said it looks like Crooks acted alone, but they are still checking if someone helped him.

The person killed during the attack was Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer fire chief who died trying to protect his family.

After the attack, President Biden spoke to the country, asking everyone to lower the harshness of politics. He emphasized, “We cannot, must not, go down this road again. We’ve traveled it before in our history.” He reminded everyone that in America, issues should be solved by voting, not violence.
