‘Inside Out 2’ Grosses $725 Million Worldwide to Become Top Movie of 2024

Pixar’s latest hit “Inside Out 2,” has swept the global box office, amassing an impressive $725 million in just ten days since its release. This made the film the frontrunner for the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the whole world.

The movie captured audiences with its return to the mind of Riley, now a teenager navigating the complexities of new emotions. The introduction of characters like Anxiety, Embarrassment, Envy, and Ennui, alongside the original crew of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, adds a fresh layer to the beloved narrative.

Among the standout performances is that of Nigerian-Barbadian comedian and actress Ayo Edebiri, who lends her voice to the character Envy, enhancing the film’s dynamic and emotional depth.

In Nigeria, “Inside Out 2” has seen considerable success at the box office, earning N24.2 million ($16,000) in just ten days by June 20, 2024. Since its release on June 14, the film has quickly climbed the charts, securing a spot among the top five movies of the past week.

In the United States, “Inside Out 2” demonstrated its box office might with an opening weekend haul of $295 million.

By the end of its second weekend, it had soared past $600 million globally, with Friday’s domestic earnings alone reaching $30 million. Such numbers suggest a possible billion-dollar finish, a milestone last achieved by last year’s “Barbie.”

On the international front, the movie also made a significant impact, notably in Nigeria where it has grossed N24.2 million ($16,000) since its debut. Ranking among the top five movies last week, “Inside Out 2” continues to draw crowds, reflecting its universal appeal.

Looking forward, “Inside Out 2” is on a trajectory to exceed $1 billion in the coming weeks, with projections estimating it could reach $970-$975 million by next weekend. The film’s success story is anticipated to unfold further, possibly reaching $1.2 billion by the end of July.

However, the upcoming release of “Despicable Me 4” on July 3 poses a new challenge. This next installment in the successful Illumination and Universal franchise could divert some audiences, especially during the competitive summer period.

Historical data, however, shows strong performances for animated features around the July 4th weekend, suggesting that “Inside Out 2” might still maintain its strong momentum.
