This is a concern especially for people with diabetes, as it could lead to uncontrolled blood sugar levels and potentially cause damage to blood vessels and nerves.

Health experts explain that the starch in hot rice turns into sugar faster in the body, leading to spikes in blood sugar. They suggest that allowing rice to cool down can form what’s called “resistant starch,” which is healthier as it breaks down more slowly, helping to manage blood sugar levels better.

The practice of eating hot rice is common, but people, particularly those with diabetes or pre-diabetes, are advised to be cautious. Eating rice that has cooled down a bit can be a better option to prevent rapid spikes in blood sugar.

For those who prefer their rice hot, it’s recommended to eat it in moderation and ensure it’s not too hot, as very hot foods can also cause discomfort or injury to the mouth and digestive system.

Additionally, maintaining good hygiene and proper food handling is crucial to avoid foodborne illnesses.
