IT Gurus to Deliberate the Adoption of 5G Technology in Nigeria

 

  • Nigeria’s Computer Professional Registration Council (CPN) is hosting a session featuring IT professionals in the country with the aim of tackling the misconceptions surrounding the adoption of 5G technology in the country.
  • This was announced by the President/Chairman-in-Council of CPN, Professor Charles Uwadia,  in a pre-conference virtual press briefing, last Thursday.
  • He acknowledged the challenges facing the adoption of the 5G technology in Nigeria, despite the investment opportunity the wireless technology holds for the country.

In a bid to tackle conspiracy theories circling the adoption of the 5G technology in Nigeria, the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), will on Thursday, 9th of July, hold a virtual brainstorming session with stakeholders in the information and communications technology sector on the adoption of the wireless technology in Nigeria.

Disclosing this at a pre-conference virtual press briefing last week’s Thursday, the President / Chairman-in-Council, Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Professor Charles O. Uwadia, said the session, which is the subject of the 2020 CPN IT Assembly of Professionals / Annual General Meeting, had the theme, “Adoption of 5G in Nigeria: Technological and Regulatory Challenges” and be held virtually.

Uwadia said that while the introduction of 5G technology, regarded as the next investment frontier, has the potential to accelerate economic growth and social inclusion, however, its implementation is not without challenges.

“It is for this reason that the 2020 IT Professionals’ Assembly would be considering the technological and regulatory challenges associated with the adoption of 5G viz-a-viz the future of frequency bands, deployment and coverage, device support, security and privacy, Digital Infrastructure challenges, outdated regulatory policies, removal of impediments to the expansion of digital infrastructure, commitment to actions that promote the long-term growth of the digital economy, misgivings and health concerns against it, among other issues,” he said.

The president of the CPN, who was assisted at the press briefing by council chief executives including vice president, Mr. Kole Jagun, and council registrar/secretary, Mr. Allwell Achumba among others, also announced that at the event no less than 400 people would be inducted as IT professions.

in addition, CPN vice president / vice president, Mr. Kole Jagun, said 5G technology was simply an improvement on 4G technology and would build on the achievements of 4G technology.

He called on Nigerians to accept the technology, adding that the misgivings about 5G technology were unfounded.
