JAMB Suspends Law Program in 8 Universities
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that eight Nigerian universities will not be able to admit students into their Law programmes for the next academic session.
This decision comes after the Council of Legal Education (CLE) imposed a suspension on these institutions due to regulatory issues. The universities affected by this suspension are:
- Kwara State University (Malete)
- Bingham University (Karu)
- Redeemers University (Ede)
- Western Delta University (Oghara)
- Taraba State University (Jalingo)
- Arthur Jarvis University (Akpabuyo)
- Alex Ekwueme Federal University (Ndufu-Alike)
- Nigerian Police Academy (Wudil)
According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, the suspension means that these universities won’t be able to accept new students into their law programmes for the upcoming academic year.
The reason behind this decision is that these institutions did not meet the necessary standards set for law programmes in Nigeria. The Council of Legal Education raised concerns about their failure to follow required guidelines, which are important to maintain quality legal education in the country.
Among the suspended institutions, the Nigerian Police Academy faces an extended suspension. It will not offer its law programme for two academic sessions – the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 years.
This move by JAMB and the CLE shows how important it is for universities to follow the rules when offering law programmes. It also affects future students who were hoping to study law at these universities. They will have to find other options or wait until the suspension is lifted.
