JAPA: Austria Opens 196,000 Job Opportunities for Nurses, Plumbers, Carpenters, and Other Skilled Foreign Workers
Austria is actively seeking foreign professionals to fill a variety of roles across different sectors. With 196,400 job vacancies reported in the first quarter of 2024, the country shows an increase in demand for skilled labor.
This surge in opportunities makes Austria an appealing destination for job seekers from around the world.
Available Jobs and Sectors in Need
The majority of job openings are in the service sector, which alone has over 113,200 positions available, highlighting a critical need for nursing professionals and cooks.
The manufacturing and engineering sectors are also seeking skilled individuals, with 46,100 openings for roles such as electrical mechanics, motor vehicle mechanics, welders, and flame cutters.
Additionally, the construction and trades sectors offer numerous positions for plumbers, pipefitters, carpenters, and joiners, reflecting a broad range of opportunities for those with technical skills.
Visa Options and Living Conditions
Austria provides several visa options tailored to the needs of non-EU citizens. The D Visa is suitable for those planning to stay and work for more than 90 days, requiring an employment contract or job offer.
For highly skilled workers, the Red-White-Red card offers a combination of a residence permit and a work permit, valid for up to two years.
The EU Blue Card is another attractive option for highly qualified professionals, allowing them to work not only in Austria but also in other EU member states. For those still seeking employment, the job seeker visa permits a six-month stay to find a suitable role.
Despite the opportunities, potential expatriates should consider Austria’s living costs, which are relatively high.
However, the competitive salaries in high-demand roles such as general practitioners, registered nurses, and engineers often offset these expenses, making Austria not only a place for career growth but also for a balanced lifestyle.
