Joining the ADC Coalition Wasn’t an Easy Decision – Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has admitted that adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition’s political platform was a tough but necessary choice for Nigeria’s future.

Obi explained that the decision was made after careful consideration of Nigeria’s current challenges and the urgent need for genuine change in leadership.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, “Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections, with Senator David Mark as National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.”

Obi added, “This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.”

The ADC coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, publicly endorsed the ADC as their new political home for the 2027 elections at an event in Abuja on Tuesday.

Obi said, “Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.”

He also emphasised that he plans to serve only one term if elected and pointed out that real change in Nigeria cannot be achieved by one person or group alone.
“To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls, even when those bridges are uneasy,” Obi stated.
