JUST IN: Tinubu Signs Old National Anthem Bill Into Law
President Bola Tinubu has officially signed the old National Anthem Bill into law to commemorate Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of democracy.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed this during a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, May 29.
Akpabio said while President Tinubu will not address the National Assembly in person, he is scheduled to officially introduce the reinstated national anthem in a ceremonial flag-off.
The National Assembly had, within one week, accelerated the passage of the controversial bill, which would reinstate Nigeria’s National Anthem at independence before it was changed by the Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime.

Many Nigerians had opposed the bill, describing it as a misplaced priority in the face of pressing national issues such as economic instability and security concerns.
