Kauri Market Bombing: Suspected Boko Haram Attack Claims Lives in Borno State

Late Wednesday night, a bomb exploded in a busy marketplace in Kauri, a rural area in Borno State, northeast Nigeria. This area is often attacked by Boko Haram, a terrorist group. The explosion happened around 9 PM at a place where many people gather every night.

Local news reported that a police officer and a woman died because of the explosion, and two police vans were burned.

A government official mentioned that the bomb went off around 8:05 PM at a spot where people often meet in the evening for tea and chats.

Initially, people thought it was a suicide attack, but it seems like the bomb was hidden there. “Nineteen people died, and many others were hurt,” the official said anonymously. The injured people were taken to a hospital in Maiduguri, the nearest big city.

This sad event happened just one day after another attack where a local government worker died when his car drove over a bomb hidden on the road.

Attempts to get comments from the police were unsuccessful because their spokesperson could not be reached by phone. There is no official statement yet on how many people died.

This bombing adds to the ongoing violence in the area, reminding everyone of the dangerous situation in Borno State, it is suspected that Boko Haram has a hand in this.
