Key Points from President Tinubu’s 2025 Budget Presentation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently shared the 2025 budget plan with the National Assembly. The budget, named “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” aims to fix the economy and help everyone grow financially. 

Here are 10 important points from his budget presentation:

Budget Theme

The 2025 budget is all about restoring peace and rebuilding prosperity, following the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Revenue and Spending

The government expects to make ₦34.82 trillion but plans to spend ₦47.90 trillion, which will create a deficit of ₦13.08 trillion.

Economic Growth 

President Tinubu pointed out that the economy grew by 3.46% in the third quarter of 2024 and highlighted a trade surplus of ₦5.8 trillion and foreign reserves of $42 billion.

Inflation and Currency Value

The plan is to reduce inflation from 34.6% to 15% by 2025 and improve the naira to ₦1,500 per US dollar.

Budget Allocations

Key allocations include ₦4.91 trillion for defense, ₦4.06 trillion for infrastructure, ₦2.48 trillion for health, and ₦3.52 trillion for education.

Support for Agriculture 

The budget emphasizes agriculture to ensure food security by supporting farmers in boosting production and reducing the need for food imports.

Investing in People 

The budget sets aside over ₦826.90 billion for educational infrastructure, including building nine new institutions, and ₦402 billion for improving healthcare facilities.

Infrastructure Projects

Plans include funding for major roads like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Highway.

Budget Goals

The focus is on stabilizing the economy, making the business environment better, promoting growth that includes everyone, and distributing wealth more fairly.

Unity and Cooperation 

President Tinubu called for everyone to work together against corruption, insecurity, and economic challenges to make the nation prosperous.
