Lagos LG Elections: Police Impose 6 am–3 pm Movement Ban on Saturday

To ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the July 12, 2025, Local Government elections, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a temporary ban on all vehicular and waterway movement across the state.

The restriction will run from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, covering every corner of Lagos’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

Originally slated to begin at 3:00 AM, the ban’s start time was shifted to 6:00 AM following appeals from community and health leaders. This three-hour delay will help residents facing medical emergencies or those who need to travel internationally avoid being stranded.

Statewide Coverage for Maximum Security

The movement restriction applies uniformly across all LGAs and LCDAs. No cars, buses, motorcycles, speedboats, or canoes will be allowed on roads or waterways during the nine-hour window. Checkpoints will be set up at major intersections, bridges, and ferry terminals to enforce the order.

Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin made the announcement, while Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh pledged full support for a “secure and transparent” election day.

Officers will patrol strategic locations and work closely with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to manage any exceptions for genuine emergencies.

How Citizens Can Stay Informed

Residents are urged to plan their travel before 6:00 AM or after 3:00 PM on Saturday. The police have set up hotlines,08063299264 and 08065154338, for reporting suspicious activities or requesting urgent assistance during the ban period.

Lagosians are asked to cooperate fully with law enforcement and to respect the movement restrictions. By doing so, everyone helps protect the integrity of the polls and contributes to a peaceful voting process.

With these measures in place, the Lagos State Police Command aims to create a safe environment for voters and election workers alike.

The temporary movement ban is a critical step toward guaranteeing that all eligible citizens can cast their ballots without fear or disruption.
