Lagos Opens 2026 BECE e-Registration for Public and Private Schools
The Lagos State Government has announced the start of the 2026 electronic registration and payment process for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for all public and private junior secondary schools in the state.
The exercise, coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB), will run from Monday, January 26, to Friday, March 27, 2026.
The state said the shift is part of a plan to fully digitise BECE registration, reducing paperwork, ending the need for school administrators to visit the board’s office physically, and improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
The government disclosed the details in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, confirming the registration window and the board’s responsibility for the process.
Schools must use new School Codes
The Registrar of the LSEB, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, advised schools to ensure they use their newly issued School Codes when registering candidates.
He explained that public junior secondary schools are required to download the Offline Data Capturing Application from bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete and submit their registration data.
For approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission, and continuing education centres, Orunsolu said they are to use the board’s portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to make payments, register candidates, and generate login details.
Registration fees
Orunsolu stated that:
- Approved private schools and public continuing education centres will pay ₦10,000 per candidate.
- Private schools with special permission and private continuing education centres will pay ₦15,000 per candidate.
Special needs candidates and late registration
The registrar also urged schools presenting candidates with special needs, such as visual impairment or albinism, to notify the board early to allow proper arrangements before the examination begins.
The board cautioned that late registration may attract penalties, adding that any additional instructions will be communicated to schools through zonal officers to ensure full compliance.
