Leicester Sack Ruud Van Nistelrooy After Premier League Relegation
Leicester City have parted ways with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy just weeks after the club was relegated from the Premier League, bringing an end to a short and difficult tenure for the Dutchman.
Van Nistelrooy, who took charge in November 2024, has left the role by mutual agreement, according to a statement from the club. The decision follows Leicester’s disappointing campaign that ended with them dropping out of the top flight.
His time in charge was marked by tough results and mounting pressure, but the club acknowledged his professionalism and efforts, particularly in giving several academy players a chance to step up into the first team.
In his farewell message, Van Nistelrooy expressed gratitude to the players, coaches, staff, and fans, saying: “I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club and to thank the fans for their support. I wish the club well for the future.”
Leicester’s pre-season preparations for life in the Championship are set to continue as scheduled, starting Monday, June 30. Until a new manager is appointed, the existing coaching staff will oversee training and planning.
The club has said there will be no further comment until the next managerial appointment is confirmed.
