Lionel Messi Could Play in the 2026 World Cup

Lionel Messi has opened the door to the possibility of playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving fans around the world new hope of seeing one of football’s greatest talents on the biggest stage again. 

The Argentine captain said he still dreams of helping his country defend the trophy they won in Qatar in 2022, even though he will be 39 when the tournament begins.

Messi currently plays for Inter Miami in the United States and has enjoyed life in the MLS. Speaking during an interview with NBC News, he explained that the chance to wear the Argentina shirt in another World Cup would be something truly special.

 He said he would love to be part of the team and continue contributing in a meaningful way.

He made it clear that his decision will depend on how he feels physically. According to him, the plan is to monitor his condition closely when Inter Miami begin their preseason training next year. 

Messi wants to make sure he is fully fit and capable of helping his teammates before making a final call. The superstar noted that representing Argentina is always an honor and that he wants to remain useful to the squad.

Messi also shared his excitement about the idea of defending the title in North America. The next World Cup will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With Argentina heading into the tournament as champions, the motivation to compete again is strong for the legendary forward.
