LP National Chairman Abure Taken into Custody by Edo Police

The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure, was arrested on Wednesday by armed policemen. The arrest took place in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, amidst allegations of serious financial and criminal misconduct.

Julius Abure is facing grave accusations of embezzling approximately N3 billion of party funds. These allegations have cast a shadow over his leadership and integrity. Furthermore, he is also accused of premeditated attempted murder, adding a more sinister dimension to the charges against him.

The Arrest and Social Media Reactions

Details of his arrest were initially unclear, but social media was soon flooded with images and visuals of Abure seated on the floor before being taken away in a vehicle by the policemen. This dramatic scene has sparked widespread reactions, with many expressing shock and concern over the developments.

The arrest of Julius Abure was prompted by a petition from the LP Youth Leader, Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia. Addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, the petition dated February 13, outlined a disturbing incident of violence against Aphimia on December 29, 2023.

Aphimia, the National Youth Leader of the Labour Party, recounted how he and a colleague were ambushed and violently attacked just outside their hotel in Benin City. This attack was allegedly orchestrated by individuals connected to the party’s internal politics, raising serious questions about the safety and integrity of political activities in the region.
