Meet Nora Awolowo, the Youngest Nollywood Director to Earn ₦100M

When Red Circle hit Nigerian cinemas on June 6, it was the beginning of a history-making run. And behind that success story is Nora Awolowo, a 26-year-old filmmaker who has now become the youngest director in Nollywood to lead a film past the ₦100 million mark at the local box office.

Awolowo was just 24 when production for Red Circle began. Two years later, the film broke nine figures within a month of release and also earned her a spot in the record books.

It’s a proud moment for her and for a new generation of filmmakers rewriting the rules in Nollywood.

What makes this milestone even more impressive is the nature of the film itself. Red Circle isn’t part of a franchise, didn’t have a major studio backing, and was not packed with gimmicks.

It’s a crime thriller that found its way into the hearts of audiences through strong storytelling, sharp visuals, and top-tier acting.

In her own words, Awolowo didn’t set out to make headlines. “We didn’t just want to tell a story, we wanted to tell it well,” she said. “No handouts, just clarity, heart, and a crew that believed.” Her quiet confidence, mixed with bold vision, clearly struck the right chord with viewers and the industry alike.

The film itself boasts a rich mix of talent. With performances from actors like Folu Storms, Tobi Bakre, Timini Egbuson, Omowunmi Dada, and Bukky Wright, Red Circle brought together veterans and new faces in a way that felt both fresh and grounded.

It’s that balance of style and substance that likely helped push it over the ₦100M line.
