NAFDAC Denies Claims of Suspended Enforcement on Sachet Alcohol Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has rejected reports claiming that the Federal Government instructed it to halt enforcement actions on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products. The Agency labelled these reports as “false and misleading.”

In an official statement released on Wednesday, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, clarified that the Agency has not received any directive from the Federal Government to stop its enforcement activities concerning sachet alcohol products.

“The publication in question is false, misleading, and does not reflect any official communication from the Federal Government,” NAFDAC stated.

The Agency emphasised that it operates strictly within its statutory mandate and in accordance with government policies and directives. It assured that its enforcement actions are consistent with the laws and regulatory frameworks in place.

“At no point has the Agency received any formal directive to suspend its regulatory or enforcement activities regarding sachet alcohol products,” Adeyeye confirmed.

NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to public health and ensuring compliance within the food and beverage sector. It also stated that any decisions affecting national regulatory actions would be communicated officially through government channels.

The Agency warned against spreading unverified information, stating that such reports can cause unnecessary public anxiety, economic uncertainty, and confusion about government policy.

“NAFDAC urges the public, industry stakeholders, and the media to ignore the false report and to rely solely on verified information issued through the Agency’s official platforms and authorised government communication channels,” Adeyeye added.

This statement follows ongoing concerns about the regulation of sachet alcohol products, which have become a major issue in public health discussions due to their accessibility and the potential for abuse, especially among young people.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health, promoting economic stability, and acting in the nation’s best interest.
