National Grid Collapses Again,For The 10th Time in 2024

The Nigeria National Grid has reported another collapse, marking a continued series of setbacks for the system, as shared on their official X Handle, @NationalGridNg. This recent incident is part of a troubling trend, as the grid had already failed three times in the final week of last month alone

With this latest occurrence, the total number of grid disturbances in 2024 has now reached ten. The tweet from the National Grid came at around 3 PM on Tuesday, stating, “BREAKING: National Grid suffers another setback. Restoration soon!”

Earlier this year, on February 4th, Nigeria faced its first major blackout of 2024 when the national grid, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), collapsed at about 11:51 AM. Initially, the grid’s capacity dropped dramatically from 2,407 megawatts down to just 31MW and was completely offline by 1 PM.
